Victoria Monét begins the JAGUAR II era with a little something for all the cannabis connoisseurs out there. Newly signed to RCA Records, she links back up with previous collaborator and fellow Mary Jane enthusiast Lucky Daye to help her “Roll Some Mo” on their duet “Smoke.”

Co-written by the two singer-songwriters and co-producers D’Mile, Tim Suby and Yogi, the mid-tempo bop is a new smoker’s anthem. “Smoke” is built on a thumping bass line (courtesy of D’Mile), synths and percussion that create a head-nodding groove that sets the table for Victoria and Lucky to eat this song up.

Monét is on fire from the first lyric til the last. “Little fireworks that light up for me / In my fingertips, I burn my worries / Do it somethin’ like that eight-track, shorty / Keep it in rotation, it’s a celebration every time we smoke,” she sings on the catchy chorus, which begins the track and returns throughout the song highlighted by a killer horn section and layered background vocals.

Lucky, who dueted with Victoria on the song “Little More Time” from his 2020 super-sized release Painted (Deluxe Edition), is the perfect person for her to puff puff pass the mic to. He matches her flirtatious energy when he sings, “You got that Earth Wind and Fire / If you know how to roll then come / Be my supplier / Up in the clouds / We get high like Mariah.”

The fly duo dropped “Smoke” with a visual that feels like a hallucinogenic trip back in time. We see Victoria and Lucky enjoying a few high times in the dreamy clip set in the 1960s. Toward the end of the video, we see him taking a hit of a bong, and she emerges from the smoke cloud inside of the device and is seen twirling on a pole. The song switches to a bump-and-grind tempo while she dances to end the capture on a sexy high note.

Victoria Monét and Lucky Daye have got a hot one here. Spring may have just started, but “Smoke” has strong Song of Summer ’23 potential. You don‘t have to be a smoker to enjoy this jam, either. But if you do indulge in the sticky icky, we‘re sure you’ll enjoy having this song in heavy rotation.
