Tori Kelly introduces her next era by going back in time to the dawn of the new millennium. Newly signed to Epic Records, the singer-songwriter is giving Y2K realness on her new single “missin u.” Not only is the song giving throwback vibes, the music video is also filled with nostalgic elements.

Co-written and produced by Jon Bellion, “missin u” is an uptempo bop that dabbles in R&B and UK garage with a heavy pop sheen. The energetic sound bed doesn’t intimidate Tori whose vocals steal the show as she catches herself reminiscing on the good old days with an old flame.

“We were young we were dumb / Yeah, we had a good run / But now I'm off that Rei–, I’m off that Reisling / Out in these streets deleting what you mean to me,” she sings as she thinks about her ex-boo. They had their fun and are long done, but that doesn’t stop her wine-drenched wild thoughts. “And you pop back, back in my mind / I go back in time,” she soon admits and fesses up that she wouldn’t mind getting that old thing back.

The Marc Klasfeld-directed visual is an homage to videos like TLC’s “No Scrubs,” Missy Elliott’s “The Rain” and The Notorious B.I.G., Diddy and Ma$e’s “Mo Money Mo Problems.” If we didn’t know better, we’d think Hype Williams directed it. Klasfeld’s fish-eyed lens is focused on the singer who rocks numerous supa dupa fly fashions and hairstyles from the era as she poses, moves and mugs for the camera.

Tori Kelly’s “missin u” is a great sound and look for the songstress. The track is the lead single from her upcoming as-yet-untitled first album on Epic Records and will be her fifth overall LP. She’s said to have way more on the way this year, but first up will be a stop at The Late Late Show with James Corden on Monday, March 20th to perform “missin u” in its TV debut.
