Jennifer Hudson is pulling in Black music star power left and right onto The Jennifer Hudson Show. She’s had so many of our faves on recently that we can barely keep up. This past Friday alone, JHud welcomed both Tamar Braxton and The Isley Brothers to her show, just to give you an indication. Hudson’s segment with the youngest Braxton was especially entertaining, and the two R&B sangers even united on a duet of “Love And War” that likely blew the roof off of the studio where The Jennifer Hudson Show is filmed.
Tamar returned to daytime TV in her flyest wig and finest Versace threads. The former co-host of The Real and current co-star on Queen’s Court sat down with Jennifer to chat it up about life and love and Braxton happily dished on both. She beamed when talking about her 9-year-old son Logan Herbert and all the things that he’s into, including her business when it comes to her love life, which Jennifer could relate to. “It’s giving daddy vibes,” Tamar said about her son who she knows means well. “But ultimately our kids want to see us happy.”
Braxton’s search for love and happiness has brought her back to reality TV on Queen’s Court, a reality dating show co-starring Nivea and Evelyn Lozada that’s produced by Will Packer and hosted by Holly Robinson Peete and Rodney Peete. After working on herself and going to counseling, Tamar decided to give it a try at the urging of her manager. Considering that she got engaged to Jeremy “JR” Robinson on the Queen’s Court finale, we’d say things worked out in her favor.
Aside from keeping it real about life and love and engaging in a hilarious segment named “Tamar’s Takes” where Jennifer asked her opinion on different relationship scenarios, Tamar chatted about music, of course. She shared how she and her sisters used to sing background with their eldest sibling Toni Braxton (“We were her ‘doo wop pop chicks’”), and she even did a spot-on imitation of Toni singing “Let It Flow.”
Jennifer couldn’t have Tamar flex her vocals by herself, of course. After congratulating Braxton on the 10th anniversary of her platinum album Love And War, the two divas broke out the microphones to make a duet out of the title cut. Viewers weren’t ready for the heavenly harmonies and vocal acrobatics that followed. These two sang circles around each other and soared together in an effortless display of their natural talents. Jennifer Hudson was pretty geeked to have this moment with Tamar Braxton, but everyone watching in-studio and at home were the real winners. Watch these soulful songbirds fly high below.
