Smokey Robinson’s latest single “How You Make Me Feel” is the second listen from his forthcoming album Gasms. Unlike the modern, mid-tempo lead single “If We Don’t Have Each Other,” this new track is classic Smokey and is making us nostalgic for his brand of sweet soul music.
The smooth groove is reminiscent of Smokey’s Motown days with pristine vocals over a clean instrumental track that includes piano, percussion and strings. The lyrics describe how Smokey’s woman makes him feel when the two exchange looks along with touches, and he gets revved up. “Got my motor running / One touch and I’m done in / So much sexy fun in / How you make me feel (how you make me feel),” he croons.
This is clearly not an occasional occurrence for the living legend and his lovely lady. With her, he abandons all inhibitions and is open to her way of making him feel better. “You make me feel like everything’s okay every day / You make me feel like everything’s alright every night / I’m addicted to you,” he sings on the chorus over and over again.
If the first two singles are any indication, Smokey Robinson is delivering the grown and the sexy on Gasms, and we aren’t mad at Zaddy. The album is on track to be quite a release for the celebrated octogenarian who is bringing fans more of the solid gold soul that has made him an international treasure.
