Raphael Saadiq and Tony! Toni! Toné! have answered fans’ prayers with what appears to be a reunion of all of the group’s original members and a reunion tour on the way. On the afternoon of Wednesday, March 22nd, Saadiq posted an image to his Instagram page (on which he archived all previous posts) that sent shockwaves around Beyoncé’s Internet.

The image consisted of a new photo of Raphael, his cousin Timothy Christian Riley and his brother D’Wayne Wiggins seated next to each other on barstools surrounded by the words “Raphael Saadiq Revisits Tony Toni Toné” and “Just Me And You Tour 2023” in a cool, wavy font. The caption echoed the photo but didn’t provide any additional details other than the photographer and designer credit. Although light on information, it told us all we needed to know: Raphael Saadiq is back with Tony! Toni! Toné! and the fellas are going on tour this year.

Initially met with shock and disbelief at the authenticity of the post in the age of fake news and AI-generated everything, that skepticism quickly gave way to jubilation once people realized that it was, in fact, real. One by one, the image was reposted by D’Wayne, Timothy and the official Tony! Toni! Toné! IG page and shared on their Twitter and Facebook accounts. Residents of Oakland got the official confirmation that something big was happening when billboards popped up all over the Tony’s hometown.

Tony! Toni! Toné!’s reunion rollout has just begun. The Just Me And You Tour 2023 – named after the group’s 1991 hit slow jam “Me And You” from the Boyz N The Hood soundtrack – will commence in the coming months. Tour dates have not been announced, but now that Tony! Toni! Toné! has everyone’s attention, fans are already looking for them in the daytime with a flashlight. (Previously announced TTT tour dates are not a part of this new tour.)

Raphael Saadiq, who left the group in 1997 to pursue a solo career and other endeavors, has been teasing a Tony! Toni! Toné! reunion for years. As recently as 2021 when doing press for The United States vs. Billie Holiday, he confirmed that the trio had locked in and been in the studio. “We’ve already started recording some stuff and we are going to release an EP,” he said. In addition to this tour, it’s pretty much a sure bet that new music is also on the way. Who knows, “Raphael Saadiq Revisits Tony Toni Toné” might even be the name of the project.

While we speculate, the fact is that this year Tony! Toni! Toné! will commemorate the 35th anniversary of their debut album Who? in April and the 30th anniversary of their third album Sons Of Soul in June, so this reunion and tour are right on time. Stay tuned, and get ready to celebrate these legends and give them their well-deserved flowers soon.
