The dynamic duo Louis York has been smoking like Nashville hot chicken. Fresh from their win at the 65th GRAMMY Awards alongside the Tennessee State University marching band for Best Root Gospel Album for The Urban Hymnal executive-produced by the duo, Chuck Harmony and Claude Kelly are out still here doing the Lord’s work. They’ve dropped the new single “Heaven Bound” featuring their longtime friend and collaborator Jessie J

“Heaven Bound” is the lead single from Louis York’s sophomore album, Songs With Friends, due out later this year. The mid-tempo bop is their first release of 2023 and follows last spring’s “Strawberry Skies.” The genre-bending song with Santana vibes about finally giving in to love is a perfect complement of Nashville soul and English pop-rock with a tinge of foot-stomping gospel.

The Nashville-based songwriting and producing outfit brings it on this guitar-driven track and serves up more of their magical chemistry. Claude and Jessie’s rich vocals are the harmonious cherries on top.

“I got a pocket full of stones / And I could sink to the bottom / Lately I just feel alone / Getting lost in my problems,” Jessie sings, her voice full of resignation and regret. “Sunny days come and go / I kind of took it for granted / My selfish ways are getting old / Leaving us empty-handed,” Kelly sings in reply, owning his part in the foolishness that has kept the drama going.

It sounds like the couple may have finally had a come to Jesus moment about their relationship as the song progresses. “Many days and many nights / I have to face so many fights / When all along we could’ve been getting high / Don’t you think it’s time / Think it’s time,” they sing on the pre-chorus.

Our suspicions of their reconciliation are soon confirmed. “If you wanna know when right now / Don't you leave me hanging with my feet off the ground / Baby don't look down / Take me to another level / I wanna be heaven bound / I wanna be heaven bound,” they sing on the chorus.

This track could be about a relationship or salvation or both. Either way, Louis York and Jessie J have created solid gold together on “Heaven Bound.”

Louis York’s Songs With Friends is the highly-anticipated follow-up to their 2019 debut, American Griots, and will feature more amazing collaborations with the likes of PJ Morton, Lalah Hathaway and rising country singer Breland. If we were excited about a new Louis York album before, this taste of what’s to come has our mouths watering.
