Fresh from a nomination for Outstanding Gospel/Christian Album at the 54th NAACP Image Awards for his July 2022 set My Life, James Fortune is wasting no time releasing a brand-new single for the saints. The Stellar Award-winning recording artist, songwriter and producer reunites with R&B songstress Monica on a timely and timeless track entitled “Trusting God.” They previously worked together with Fred Hammond on the song “Hold On” from James Fortune & FIYA’s 2012 album Identity, and, over a decade later, the chemistry and conviction is still there.
The uplifting rhythm and praise ballad, co-written and produced by David “D-Lo” Outing, is a masterclass in faith. Fortune and Monica encourage us to trust God and not lose heart when fear, doubt and anxiety try to come for us. The song’s chorus is an affirmation of faith, reminding us not to give up.
“So I’m just out here trusting God (When I don’t understand your plan for me) / I’m just out here believing every word you promised me (Yes) / And I’m just out here holding on (That’s all I can do, I won’t give up) / And, I won’t give up because I know you won’t give up on me (But sometimes it’s hard to believe),” Monica sings while James speaks his parts.
When life gets crazy and gives us more questions than answers, more problems than solutions and more payments due than paycheck, Fortune and Monica exhort us to be still and keep trusting God. They offer a comforting reminder that while you might be hurting, you might have to cry and you might be in the midst of a storm, don’t lose heart. God is in control.
Whew! James Fortune and Monica have shared a very necessary word on “Trusting God.” If you need some assurance that God’s got it – whatever “it” is – listen to “Trusting God” below and add the song to your praise and worship playlists from a variety of digital music platforms.
