As spring gets ready to make its debut, people are going to need the proper soundtrack. Since music that feels good and maybe even sparks up a bit of nostalgia is always preferred, Dinner Party is here to give the people what they want with their latest release. The supergroup understands the assignment on their brand-new single “Insane” with special guest Ant Clemons.
Produced by founding member Terrace Martin and TDE’s go-to producer Sounwave, “Insane” gives us a warm-weather groove that even those outside of the west coast can’t help but move to. A sample of the legendary Mtume classic “Juicy Fruit” fuses with Robert Glasper’s keys, Kamasi Washington’s tenor saxophone and Martin on alto sax for the perfect soulful blend of jazz and hip-hop.
Soothing vocals from Jersey-bred singer/songwriter Ant Clemons top it all off, as he sings of batty infatuation. “That body on you so insane / Them legs you got is so insane / The way you walk is so insane / You’ve been walking on my brain / So I let you drive, drive me insane,” Clemons sings, riding the seductive rhythm with absolutely no shame to his game.
The accompanying visual, directed and animated by Juppi Juppsen, captures the carefree mood of the track. The colorful animation takes us to a function in the Hollywood Hills that is quite a lituation on every level and in every room of the multi-story complex. We see all four original members of the crew (including 9th Wonder on the turntables), plus cartoon cameos from a few famous faves.
Dinner Party’s latest offering marks their first release as a collective since their self-titled debut in 2020 and their remix album Dessert. Though not yet confirmed, “Insane” could mark the beginning of the rollout of a new project, and we couldn’t be more excited at the prospect. While we wait to see if that is in fact the case, get into Dinner Party’s juicy groove with Ant Clemons and watch the “Insane” visual below.
