The ESSENCE Festival Of Culture bounced back big time in 2022 with headliners Janet Jackson, New Edition and Nicki Minaj helping to set things off in New Orleans. If you thought that last year’s lineup was lit, you ain’t seen nothing yet. The 2023 ESSENCE Festival Of Culture is coming on strong with its first round of performer announcements, and the talent is talented.

Touching down in the Big Easy beginning on Thursday, June 29th through Monday, July 3rd, this year’s ESSENCE Fest will be a love letter to hip-hop as it celebrates turning the big 5-0. Headlining the festivities will be fierce femcees Ms. Lauryn Hill and Megan Thee Stallion. Ms. Hill was actually a surprise guest performer in 2022, but this time around she gets top billing as she comes through to commemorate the 25th anniversary of her debut album The Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill.

Hip-hop legends will be in plentiful supply during ESSENCE Fest with two special curations. Super-producer Jermaine Dupri will be there to celebrate his label So So Def’s 30th anniversary with performances by a few as-yet-unnamed Atlanta artists. The ageless rapper Doug E. Fresh will lead a set and rock the mic alongside a few of his fellow hip-hop pioneers.

There’ll be much more Black music excellence to be found at the 2023 ESSENCE Festival Of Culture. Also scheduled to perform are R&B beauties Monica and Coco Jones and Nigerian Afrobeats stars Wizkid (who was scheduled to appear in 2022 but had to cancel) and Kizz Daniel. Helping to move the crowd and create the vibes will be DJ Spinderella, Kid Capri and DJ Clark Kent on the turntables.

Music and comedy go hand in hand, so there’ll be plenty of comedians on deck hosting each night of the festival. Get ready to laugh all the beignets and po’ boys you eat while in NOLA off with Deon Cole, Affion Crockett, Spice Adams and Abbott Elementary’s Janelle James bringing the jokes.

The 2023 ESSENCE Festival Of Culture is just getting started. Look out for more announcements about performers, experiences and activations in the coming weeks and months. If you’re already sold, though, tickets and packages to attend this summer’s ESSENCE Fest are already on sale. Visit the ESSENCE Festival Of Culture website or Ticketmaster to purchase.
