Kali Uchis is busy readying her new album Red Moon In Venus for our consumption when it arrives on March 3rd. She got us open when she dropped the project’s lead single “I Wish You Roses” and also announced an upcoming tour in support of the effort. With the set’s release date looming in front of us, she seduces us even further with the album’s second single “Moonlight.”
“Moonlight” is a slinky little number that sounds like it was inspired by the soulful and funky sounds of the ’70s thanks to a thick, wavy bass line and wafts of wah-wah guitar hanging in the atmosphere of the song. The sexy of it all is amplified by Kali, who is all about vibes as she flits between English and Spanish while capturing us in her haze as she sings of wanting to escape from the rigors of the day with her baby.
“I just wanna get high with my lover / Veo una muñeca cuando miro en el espejo / Kiss, kiss, looking dolly, I think I may go out tonight / I just wanna ride, get high in the moonlight,” she sings on the chorus. It’s a sentiment to which many can relate, but the songstress makes it all seem like a tempting endeavor. With her come hither vocals and the song’s seductive groove playing in our ears, who are we to resist?
