SZA is on top right now. On top of the world, on top of the charts (with SOS’s four-week consecutive reign making her the first female R&B singer to do so since Janet Jackson’s janet. in 1993) and on the top of our minds. With fans clamoring for more and her first-ever headlining arena tour on the horizon, it’s only right that she strikes while the iron is hot. Now she goes full femme fatale in the visual for “Kill Bill.”
Given its title, it was inevitable that SZA would look to Quentin Tarantino’s epic two-part film of the same name for inspiration. She plays a nameless heroine who seems hopelessly in love with her man. That soon changes when he executes a hit on her, filling her trailer with bullets and leaving her a bloody, heartbroken mess. That event sets the stage for her revenge, which she begins plotting as she rides shotgun in a truck alongside Vivica Fox.
After recovering, she shows us just how lethal she is with a blade as she comes after her ex with a vengeance. She slices and dices through her ex’s forces with acrobatic skill before things go animated as she faces him directly, eventually ripping out his heart and getting the closure she needs. Once all that business is done, we then see her naked and tied up as she sings the beginnings of SOS cut “Seek & Destroy” before it all fades to black.
SZA has been getting pretty cinematic when it comes to her recent visual offerings. Perhaps this might be a sign of future aspirations? While we ponder what that could mean, catch the video for “Kill Bill” when you press play right here.
