CAMP Offers Affirmation With ‘CNTRL’

CAMP became a new man when he reintroduced himself back in 2021 under his new mononym. That included him delving into weightier subject matter on EPs like 2021’s Therapy and his 2022 releases Process and Lucid. But if you thought the Bounce-Worthy alum was going to sit 2023 out, you thought wrong. He’s back at it again, this time dropping off his first single of the year, “CNTRL.”

“CNTRL” might be one of CAMP’s most personal singles to date. That’s because the track weaves voice messages from his late father into the song’s unique structure. The messages contain words of encouragement and support to help the artist along his journey through life and take even more resonance when the singer-songwriter begins to harmonize alongside the song’s arrangement, which incorporates funk, soul and even a little jazz.

“Days come and go / Every season change / But where the wind blows / Something they don’t know,” he sings. “Trust and grow / It's your life / You're in control.”

CAMP mentioned on Instagram that this song has been his “daily & personal affirmation so far.” Though his father’s words were meant for him, the messages coupled with the observations of CAMP and production courtesy of Kenneth “NSFR” Wright and Curtis Wright make the single a source of motivation to anyone who listens. Let it bless you when you press play below.
