Any day that we get to hear the talented Avery*Sunshine do her thing is a good day. Today, however, is extra special because the genre-bending star is giving us something a little different. She revisits her stellar 2022 release Four Songs & A Bootleg, singling out the folksy soul of her song “Boomerang” and giving it a brand new spin with a house-inflected remix courtesy of her husband Dana “Big Dane” Johnson.

The couple has great professional chemistry in addition to their romantic vibe, with some of their best work being their collaborations. The “Boomerang (BigDane1973 Mix)” is no exception. The original was full of twangy acoustic guitar that rubbed gently against the singer’s beautifully arranged keys, giving the song the feel of a soft breeze. The remix throws all that out the window, replacing it with strings, a bumping four-on-the-floor beat and subtle musical flourishes that somehow keep pace with her quiet, thoughtful vocal delivery without overpowering the emotion of her touching lyrics.
