Anita Baker brought the Philadelphia Eagles some good luck on Sunday during the 2023 NFC Championship Game. The Songstress and superfan was personally invited by the Eagles to perform the National Anthem before the big game against the San Francisco 49ers, and she delivered. In a rare televised appearance, Baker blessed everyone with her presence at Lincoln Financial Field in Philly, where the home team would go on to become victorious.
The eight-time GRAMMY Award winner smiled brightly as she stood proudly in front of the massive American flag that covered the entire field. Anita commanded everyone’s attention and respect while she sang the National Anthem a cappella. There seemed to be an issue with her in-ear monitors that led to some wayward notes, but the singer who just celebrated her 65th birthday last week gave it the best that she’s got.
Unless she has some other surprises in store, the next time we’ll see Anita Baker will be on stage on The Songstress Tour next month. The comeback tour begins on Saturday, February 11th in Hollywood, Florida before traveling the country through December. Babyface will join Baker on selected dates of the tour during which she’s promised to perform “some new music.”
The next time we’ll see the Philadelphia Eagles on the field will be at Super Bowl LVII where they’ll go up against the Kansas City Chiefs who beat the Cincinnati Bengals in the 2023 AFC Championship Game. Super Bowl LVII will be a historic game with two Black quarterbacks – the Eagles’ Jalen Hurts and the Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes – playing against each other for the first time in Super Bowl history.
Are you ready for some football? The NFL certainly hopes so. Super Bowl LVII airs on Sunday, February 12th starting at 6:30 p.m. EST with performances by Sheryl Lee Ralph, Babyface, Chris Stapleton and Rihanna with her highly anticipated return for the halftime show extravaganza.
