This weekend's edition of Saturday Night Live came with its fair share of reveals. The biggest, of course, was that the evening's host Keke Palmer is pregnant with her first child. However, the episode's musical guest SZA wouldn't be outdone. TDE's first last thrilled fans when she not only revealed that her sophomore set SOS would be coming much sooner than we expected but also gave us the debut performance of new song "Blind."
SZA kicked off her evening with a performance of her latest single "Shirt." The performance was rather straightforward, with SZA beginning it standing in silhouette while a screen projected ethereal images behind her and dancers flanked her on both sides. Though it was simple, it was an effective way to introduce us to her new era, especially her album release date of December 9th (which is this Friday, folks!) was projected behind her at the performance's close.
Her second time at bat found SZA debuting "Blind," which was teased at the end of the video for "Shirt." The songstress kept things even simpler than before, taking the stage solo in an oversized men's shirt and tie while an image of a lighthouse and crashing waves was projected behind her. Hearing the song in full, we realize that it's a searing and intimate ballad on which she deals with the search for a love she can only find within.
In addition to performing the two songs, the singer also took time to play in the SNL reindeer games by lending her voice to the hilarious sketch "Big Boys" alongside Keke and the ladies of SNL as they detailed their need for a larger-than-life man during the cold winter months.
You can see each of SZA's performances and her getting her funny on in the "Big Boys" sketch as you prepare for SZA season below.
