Anita Baker is poised to have a huge 2023. From January – when she celebrates her 60th birthday – until December – when she's scheduled to end her coast-to-coast Anita Baker, The Songstress Tour – the year is already hers, and it hasn't even started yet. As she prepares for her 2023 takeover, she's putting the finishing touches on her new music and forthcoming concert tour. After previously announcing that she'd be joined by special guests on the tour, she's finally revealed who one of those special guests is, and it's none other than Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds.
Babyface himself is coming off of a banner year that saw him releasing the hit single "Keeps On Fallin'" with Ella Mai and subsequently dropping the well-received album Girls Night Out featuring duets with a who's who of contemporary R&B starlets. After working his magic with those young women, it will be a living legend link-up when Babyface joins Anita on The Songstress Tour.
"I am excited to share that I am joining the iconic and legendary Anita Baker on tour next year!" Babyface captioned the big announcement on Instagram. "I am looking forward to sharing her stage and seeing all of you for some fun evenings filled with music & love."
Not only do these two consummate artists still put on excellent live shows, they may even bless audiences by performing together. Babyface and Baker previously worked on the song "Like You Used To" from her last studio album, 2004's My Everything. They sounded superb on that duet, so it would be awesome to hear them bring the song to life on stage. Our fingers are surely crossed that that happens.
Babyface will accompany Anita Baker in select cities of her 15-city tour. There's no word yet on which cities he'll be in or who any of her other special guests will be, but the bar is set pretty high so expect future guest announcements to be just as exciting as this one.
While we wait for Anita Baker's next surprise, tickets to Anita Baker, The Songstress Tour are on sale now and they make excellent gifts.
