As he prepares for the release of the third installment of his Crisis & Opportunity series, drummer/producer Myele Manzanza shares the second single from the project. Entitled “Therapy,” the track gets a soulful boost from the Godfather of UK Soul, Omar.
The vibrant bop sends listeners straight to the dance floor, while the legendary Omar sings of music’s healing energy. While his soul-drenched, signature vocals are known to elevate any track he chooses to bless, Myele and Lewis Moody’s complex co-production does not fade into the background. Though a slight departure from what we’re used to hearing from Manzanza, both new and old fans will appreciate the vibe and lush intricacy of this tune.
Without completely abandoning his jazz roots, Manzanza'a said to have sought a slightly new direction for the third volume of the album series. While Vol. 1 - London and Vol. 2 - Peaks garnered critical acclaim for their masterful display of musicianship, a chance exchange at a coffee shop spawned an alternative approach to Myele’s creative composition. For the third time around, he chose a more electronic route and opted to play a more “producer/beatmaker focused role.” With the technicalities down cold, there is no end to where his talent and creativity will take him, and we are most certainly along for the ride.
