Gaidaa 'Figures' Out How Connected We All Are

If there’s one thing we’ve learned from the pandemic and social uprisings since then, it’s that what happens anywhere affects us everywhere. In other words, no one lives in a bubble, and, as humans, we all share a collective experience. Singer-songwriter Gaidaa captures this sentiment for her first release of the year, the single “Figures.”

Over the Hollywood Cole and Lorenzo Kobina-produced track, Gaidaa's soulful vocals come out to play with her cleverly-penned lyrics. “We're not figures, guess it figures / We're all in it now / No one's figured, all these figures / Thought we'd have figured it out,” she declares on the hook.

This concept of separate togetherness plays out beautifully in the accompanying visual. The quirky capture, written and directed by Segraphy with Joachim Spruijt, showcases a carefree Gaidaa as she goes through her day encountering folks from different walks of life in the midst of their daily grind. The seemingly random occurrences and disjointed images she gathers along the way all work together in the end, creating a brilliant metaphor for humanity.

“‎‘Figures’ is about the way we as a society can get lost in the sauce of the cyclical and mundane nature ‎of our day-to-day lives," Gaidaa shared about the song via a press statement. "It’s a ‎reminder that though we are individuals trying to forge our own path, we will always exist as part of ‎something greater and more meaningful (though we may not always realize it). ‘Figures’ is about the ‎realization that even through the harsh static of it all, there is a fluidity and interconnectedness that’s ‎innate in us.”‎
