Debórah Bond has been quite busy since dropping her album compass: I last year. Her first release in 10 years sparked a fire in Bond who has since released the live album Deborah Bond: Bonded Sessions 1 and is on the verge of unleashing a remixed and reimagined album entitled COMPASS: 1.5. Before that project drops, though, she gives us a preview of coming attractions with a Tall Black Guy remix of her song "Patience."

It's no secret that once Tall Black Guy gets his hands on a track it will never be heard the same way again. The word “remix” doesn’t quite capture the magic he creates, and his work here is no different. He takes “Patience,” which originated on compass: I, and flips it into "Patience (What Does It Mean Remix?)."

This rework is an equally moving masterpiece, sped up and driven by hip-hop percussion. The listener is immediately thrust into a trance-like head nod while Deborah ministers, “Just take it slow / You’re getting older, you better breathe / Maybe if you had a little patience with yourself.”

Like most of us of a certain age, Tall Black Guy says the words resonated with him and helped him to realize one truism in his own life. Via Bandcamp he explained, “As I am getting older and evolving, I am recognizing that my son is not the only one with whom I need to practice patience. I am learning to extend myself the same grace and courtesy. I am deserving of patience. I am deserving of forgiveness.”

In addition to calling his rework a “beautiful interpretation,” Debórah noted on Instagram that the lyrics led to a powerful conversation between the two of them and dedicates the track to “those who are soul searching.”

“Patience (What Does It Mean Remix?)” is available for purchase on both Debórah Bond's Bandcamp and Tall Black Guy's Bandcamp pages. Give the track a spin right here, and get ready for more refixes from Bond on COMPASS: 1.5.

Described as a project "For Hip Hop Beat Makin’ Sample Heads," the remix album is produced entirely by another staple on the DMV music scene, drummer/producer Jon Laine. The collection will take songs from compass: I and give the tracks a brand-new feel. Thankfully fans don't have long to wait for COMPASS: 1.5 as it will be released tomorrow, Friday, October 7th.
