After soulfully representing his home state of Washington on American Song Contest earlier this year with his original song "A Bit Of Both," Allen Stone is back with more new music with a message. On his latest single “5 Minutes,” Stone encourages us to slow down and enjoy life.
The release of "5 Minutes" follows the birth of Allen’s second child and the unfortunate loss of his beloved mother to cancer. The song is a heartfelt plea for us to remember what’s most important in life. He reminds us on the mid-tempo bop that there is so much more to life than work, money and more work.
Stone makes it plain from the first verse. “Don't it seem funny / We work to make money / Then sacrifice / Our daily lives / Because all we remember / No dollar could measure / Who takes the prize / When losing sight,” he sings, giving us food for thought.
“If we could just wait five minutes / Take time to make it slower (it slower) / It slower (it slower) / I want to just give it five minutes / Don’t want this feeling to be over (be over) / Be over (be over),” he urges us on the chorus to make time for what really matters.
The accompanying animated visualizer with its vibrant bursts of color and hypnotizing kaleidoscopes creates a relaxing mediative vibe that complements the song’s sweet sentiment. The whimsical short features cartoon renditions of Allen, butterflies, bulldogs, zebras and a blue eye with a woman on a pool floatie on-screen spinning and floating by.
Stone’s message on “5 Minutes” is one he hopes will resonate with fans. “Taking time and making space for the people that matter most are what compels my movement now. My new song '5 Minutes' is all about that journey. Taking time to make it slower. Hope you enjoy,” he shared in press materials.
