This is Kenyon Dixon's year. He started 2022 strong in January with the single "Love On Replay" featuring Tiffany Gouché, and has had R&B lovers under the spell of his outstanding album Closer since May. As we go into the fourth quarter, Dixon keeps the momentum going and music coming with his latest single "Getting Late" and the announcement of the impending release of a deluxe edition to Closer.

Kenyon makes a young lady whose man isn't treating her right an offer she can't refuse on "Getting Late." Her dude has left her hanging yet again, but Dixon has the remedy for her canceled plans and neglectful man. "It's getting late, what you gon' do? / Let me know, you should come through / Sip a little red wine to some Vandross grooves," he entices with the promise of a little late-night get right on the chorus.

In case the prospect of some vino and Luther Vandross isn't enough to get a yes out of her, Kenyon keeps applying friendly pressure on the bridge. He encourages the object of his desire to, "Come over / Even if just for the night take a trip come alive / Let me show ya / Every time when it's right you can get what you like." Creeping hasn't sounded this good in a while.

R&B Kenny's pen is on fire on "Getting Late," and the mid-tempo production is expertly handled by Frank Rose and Nile Hargrove. The song starts with a two-step ready groove before transitioning into slow jam territory on the bridge and sealing the deal on the song's sultry outro.

Dixon shared some insight into "Getting Late" in a press release. “It’s the perfect transition from summer into fall. It captures the nostalgia of the R&B we’ve always loved perfectly. Couple that with an innovative modern approach, allowing you to still showcase the progression of music overall and somehow it feels like the early 2000s all over again. It’s just one of them ones.” Kenyon is clearly feeling the song as much as we are.

"Getting Late" serves as the first single from Closer (Deluxe), a special expanded edition of his outstanding album Closer, which we've had on repeat since it dropped. There are no additional details about Closer (Deluxe) yet, but trust and believe we'll keep you in the loop and be first to press play when it hits these streaming streets.
