Kem & Rick Ross Are 'Right On Time' And Saying All The Right Things

Kem has been a mainstay in R&B since the release of his debut single "Love Calls" in 2002 and his debut album Kemistry the following year. His vocal delivery is the epitome of smooth, and he is still going strong two decades and counting in the music game and on Motown Records. He released an EP on the historic label in July entitled Full Circle, and now he's dropped a new music video for the cut “Right On Time.”

"Right On Time" finds Kem teaming up with Rick Ross to deliver an up-tempo jam to help us get our groove on as we coast out of summer and into fall. Kem leaned on heavyweight producers Derek “DOA” Allen and Babyface to set the tone on the slick production co-written by the three artists and William Leonard Roberts II.

Kem's woman has him sprung, and he lets her know she is all that and then some on “Right On Time.” His nose is wide open as he sings, "Girl, have I ever told you / I love you like a soldier / With each and every beat of my heart / And I get from good to greater / 'Cause you're my motivator / Girl, don't you know you're everything's everything."

Once Kem lays his unmistakable vocals down, he confidently passes the mic to Ross. Known for his clever bars, Rick reinforces Kem’s message. "Fell in love with your kiss and your moan tonight / Staring at your photos when I be alone on flights / So we can walk in the park after dark / Let me look into your eyes until the magic sparks," he smoothly rhymes.

The visual, directed by Gerald “Plaid” Isaac and produced by Content Dreams, takes us to the fictional intersection of "Kemistry Avenue" and "Boss Lane" where a couple meets up for a rendezvous. Kem appears on a soundstage in front of large white large letters that spell KEMISTRY impeccably dressed in a white suit before switching into a black 'fit.

The video has a black-and-white theme with splashes of color from Kem’s gold chain, a golden sportscar and Rick’s red outfit when he appears. As things progress, the couple gets in the car to take it for a spin while Ricky Rozay, adorned in a crushed velvet coat and matching fedora, drops his bars. He soon changes into a white outfit to match Kem's fly in their scenes together.

Kem and Rick’s styles complement each other well on “Right On Time.” The song is an adult contemporary bop perfect for a little two-step and shimmy. There are more vibes where this came from on Kem's Full Circle EP, available now on all digital music platforms.

Up next for Kem is a live album to commemorate the 20th anniversary of his signing to Motown and his debut album. The project was recorded live in Detroit earlier this month during two shows at The Aretha Franklin Amphitheatre. Kem's forthcoming live album will be released on Black Friday, November 25th.
