Even with the last days of summer upon us, Skip Marley is determined to help us soak up the last bit of fun in the sun with his new single. The latest star from reggae's first family teams up with Nigerian Afropop singer Ayra Starr to bring us the tropical track “Jane.”
Skip taps frequent collaborator Rykeyz (who previously produced his H.E.R.-featuring smash "Slow Down") to produce "Jane." The uptempo track opens with Marley’s Jamaican-tinged vocals singing about finding peace in a crazy world. Describing the song as being about “finding that thing in your life to keep you balance and free from stress,” it seems a safe bet that he finds his balance from none other than marijuana or Mary “Jane” as he sings, “Light up the world now / Burn up the bad vibes / The higher that we go / We can go higher,” on the chorus. Marley and Starr’s vocals are the perfect complement to each other’s as they playfully go back and forth with the light, breezy lyrics.
Released in conjunction with a music video, the Mid Jordan-helmed clip invites viewers along for a lush, sun-drenched day spent with friends and loved ones. It almost plays like a travel ad as it beckons you to hop in the whip, jump in the water and finally dance under the night sky in what looks like the perfect way to bring solstice to a close.
“Jane” is just the latest single released by Marley as he puts the finishing touches on his debut album. In the meantime, he’s keeping busy on the road with a North American tour consisting of both festival dates mixed in with his headlining tour.
