It seems that the teen R&B stars of the '90s have all decided that 2022 is their time to shine. Brandy and Usher each managed to creep back onto our screens last month with stellar performances. And so did Miss Thang herself Monica, who wowed with a Tiny Desk (Home) Concert performance of her own. She is ready to capitalize on that momentum by releasing her newest single "Friends."

The songstress gave us a taste of "Friends" during her Tiny Desk appearance, but her single gives us a fully realized version that adds everyone's favorite collaborator Ty Dolla $ign into the mix to create a romantic duet. As acoustic guitar plays, the two take turns discussing their love and why it works despite what their friends and the outside world might have to say.

Monica points on all the little things he does that make her fall even deeper on her verse. Ty, meanwhile, advises her to not sweat the small stuff that might get between them sometimes because of how sincere their love is. The chorus focuses on expressing that love as profusely as possible, with the two saying "I love you, baby" repeatedly while reiterating that there's "nothing they can do" to tear their love apart.

The Tasha Catour-prouced track (which was also co-written by our friends Rob Milton and Kreion of the group Cousin) is the follow up the Monica's 2020 single "Trenches" and will feature on her upcoming album entitled Trenches when it arrives this fall. Listen to "Friends" right here when you press play.
