French keyboardist DOMi Louna and Dallas drummer JD BECK have a lot to celebrate. After sitting in with the likes of the legendary Herbie Hancock, Thundercat and Ariana Grande and then scoring co-writing credits on "Skate" from Silk Sonic’s GRAMMY Award-winning album, the talented duo quickly made a name for themselves amongst true musicians in the industry. Now, having signed with Anderson .Paak’s new label APESHIT in partnership with Blue Note Records, DOMi & JD BECK are more than ready to branch out on their own with their debut single "SMiLE."
“SMiLE” serves as a brilliant introduction to the duo and their forthcoming debut album, which is set to drop later this year. The vibrant and catchy instrumental feels like sunshine and showcases the depth of their talent and boundless creativity.
The song's accompanying music video, directed by Anderson .Paak, takes us along for the sweet and silly story of an aging jazz musician who has lost his hearing and has some interesting habits. Though their mentor played by singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Mac DeMarco comes off as a bit cranky and strange, DOMi & JD BECK work their way into his softer side through their music and a surprise, star-studded dinner party. The humorous footage gives retro energy and features cameos galore from comedian Teddy Ray, Thundercat, .Paak and many more.
