Virginia Beach’s loss is Washington, D.C.’s gain with the announcement that Pharrell Williams is bringing his Something In The Water music and arts festival to the Nation’s Capitol for its second edition. After debuting in Pharrell’s hometown in 2019 and having to fall back for the past couple of years due to the pandemic, the festival is bouncing back this Juneteenth Weekend, between Friday, June 17th through Sunday, June 19th, and will be held on the National Mall.
Something In The Water 2022 boasts a massive lineup of over 60 artists who’ll perform over the course of its three days in D.C. Of course, Pharrell himself will be performing with a few of his “Phriends,” who have yet to be announced. Of those artists who we do know will be there, though, there will be something for everyone and all musical tastes at Something In The Water.
SoulBounce faves Usher, Teyana Taylor, Lucky Daye, Thundercat, Syd, Snoh Aalegra, Chloe x Halle and DUCKWRTH will all be on the scene repping for soul and R&B. Hip-hop will be well-represented by Pusha T, Tobe Nwigwe, T.I., Run The Jewels, EARTHGANG, Tierra Whack, Bia, Tyler, The Creator and Ja Rule who’ll be joined by Ashanti. There’ll be rock from Dave Matthews Band, EDM from Calvin Harris and Afrobeats courtesy of Davido and Adekunle Gold.
Washington, D.C.’s homegrown music genre go-go will take centerstage with local groups Rare Essence, Backyard Band and Sound Of The City all scheduled to perform.
“D.C. has always been a deep inspiration to me as a person and a musician,” Williams said about SITW’s new home via statement. Pharrell decided to relocate the festival to the DMV after citing the “toxic environment” in Virginia Beach following the police shooting of his cousin Donovon Lynch in March 2021.
Tickets to attend Something In The Water 2022 will go on sale to the general public starting at 10 a.m. local time on Saturday, April 30th.
