What time is it? Well, according to our girl Lizzo, it's bad b***h o'clock. The GRAMMY-winning singer/rapper is finally stepping back on the scene after dropping off "Rumors" way back in August of last year. While that one didn't exactly set the world on fire, her new single "About Damn Time" sets it off.
"About Damn Time" shows the singer doing what she does best: delivering feel-good vibes and sass with effervescent charm. Helping her do that is a disco-fied groove that jams with some of the best out there. It rides on a guitar groove that feels very Nile Rodgers while synths that shine like a disco ball in Studio 54 accent the song's melody.
Lizzo uses the musical moment talk to us about the times we feel low and why it's important to recognize our inner fabulousness while shaking off whatever's been keeping us down. "Turn up the music / Turn down the lights / I got a feeling I'm gon' be alright / OK, alright / It's about damn time," she sings on the energetic chorus as the music puts a little boogie in our step.
For the video, we see Ms. Lizzo as she's called to speak first in a Stressed & Sexy support group. Rather than speak her piece, however, she runs outside of the room to clear her thoughts — which, of course, allows the song to begin. From there, she glides through the office building the group is meeting in as the office floors light up and she puts on a sparkly catsuit and white boots. The clip feels just as fun as the song (to paraphrase part of the single, b***h it might be better) and is a welcome return to form.
Lizzo's busy as hell as of late. She just launched her new shapewear line Yitty, her Amazon Prime show Lizzo's Watch Out For The Big Grrrls is doing numbers and she's set to pull double duty as both host and musical guest on this week's edition of Saturday Night Live. All that, and she's just announced that her album Special will arrive on July 15th.
It looks like we're on the verge of a Lizzo takeover this summer. But before she usurps control over all media, check out her brand new single and video right here. Then stay a while to catch her announcement of Special — which is available for pre-order now — live from her SNL rehearsals and peep the album's cover.
