Kehlani has been teasing us with the eventual release of their album blue water road. Now, the project is finally here for the masses. The set finds the singer revealing a more peaceful side of themself to the world. Helping Kehlani express that softer side is the visual for the song "everything."
"everything" is a quiet, lovely ballad on which Kehlani praises everything about their significant other from their appearance to their inviting energy. For the video, the singer flips our expectations upside down by giving us what appears to be a 'hood tale.
We see all the 'hood hallmarks in the clip — dice games, liquor stores, smoking, drinking and people all clad in monochrome outfits as they stare intently at the camera. What we're given is actually a thoughtful look at the beauty of the situation, however. The camera pans across Kehlani and a rather large posse as it showcases just how tight they all are. They hang together, laugh together, ride together and stand together.
There are also some interesting touches, like the inclusion of a dancer's fluid movements to the track, a random trumpeter who pops up alongside the singer in a car and even a harpist in the middle of what seems to be a raucous house party. We guess the theme of the video is that what you expect isn't necessarily what you get.
The same can be said of blue water road, which is a much more introspective turn from the SweetSexySavage singer who we first met back in their mixtape days. Check out the video for "everything" when you press play and then stick around a while to stream Kehlani's latest album in full.
