Celeste was on fire in 2021. The UK singer released her debut album Not Your Muse to award-winning acclaim and even got nominated for an Oscar for the song "Hear My Voice," her contribution to the film The Trial Of The Chicago 7. It appears that she is looking to continue her streak in 2022, as she recently released her first new music of the year with the single "To Love A Man."
"To Love A Man" finds Celeste ruminating on all the feelings that loving someone can bring. She communicates this through poetic lyrics with a spare musical arrangement that is almost acapella save for a few spare piano notes that underpin her vocal.
"What a fine man / And I want for him to be happy / Though I mean him no harm / Caused him so much already," Celeste sings, a loving melancholy blooming within her delivery. "Feel so precious in a boy's arms / It's just not like me / But he talks, communicates / And this tends to be unlikely."
The poetry of the lyrics and the melancholy vibe of the song transfer to the song's video, as we see Celeste in the midst of a very artistic interpretation of the track. She stands bewinged in a crimson dress against a black backdrop when we first see her. The video then takes us through a few vignettes that smartly use the black backdrop and bold colors to create something like a living painting that is beautiful to watch.
Celeste knows how to get our attention, even in her more quiet and earnest moments. "To Love A Man" is no exception. Stream the lovely new single and watch its video below.
