Latto is the rapper of the moment thanks to the release of her sophomore set 777. While the set has many tracks for everyone to enjoy, the clear winner is last year's single "Big Energy." The jam owes more than a little bit to Mariah Carey and her 1996 hit "Fantasy" (which itself utilizes Tom Tom Club's "Genius Of Love" to great effect). Now Latto and Mariah are joining forces to take the song even higher.
The new version of the track kicks off with DJ Khaled doing his best Ol' Dirty Bastard as he sets the scene for the epic moment. It starts with Latto giving us the chorus while Mimi harmonizes in the background. The singer then belts the opening verse from "Fantasy" to lead into Latto's rap as she brags about landing Mariah on the remix before the ladies take turns on the chorus.
While the collaboration seems like a no-brainer, Latto landing the elusive chanteuse on the track is a major get and a pretty good look. This new version isn't exactly breaking the mold, but it is fun and sure to ride the wave of '90s nostalgia that's going pretty strong.
