It's been almost four years since Ella Mai released her self-titled debut album. Anchored by the runaway hit single "Boo'd Up," the project was also a hit out of the gate, eventually going on to become double platinum. Ella is hoping that lightning strikes twice with the announcement that her sophomore album, Heart On My Sleeve, is on the way and arriving on Friday, May 6th.
Ella has unveiled the album title, cover art and release date, but she's keeping the tracklist under wraps for the moment. However, it's a sure bet that her current single "DFMU" will be included on the set, and she's already confirmed that she's worked with Mustard, Pharrell and J. Cole. It's unknown if her 2020 single "Not Another Love Song" or if her Usher duet "Don't Waste My Time" will pop up on the project, but our fingers are crossed.
In January, Ella Mai told Billboard that this forthcoming album will show her growth as a woman and artist. "When I released my debut album, I was 23 about to be 24, and now I’m about to be 27. Just in life, I’m a different woman," she told writer Carl Lamarre. "I’m more mature and I’ve experienced different things than I did when I was a 23-year-old. I’m more sure of myself as an artist."
In addition to a more mature Ella Mai, Heart On My Sleeve will find her tapping into hers. The singer shared the following caption on social media with the album announcement, writing, "i poured my whole heart into this album, more so than ever before. i am overly excited for this sophomore journey. let’s do it all over again!"
Get ready to do it again with Ella Mai when Heart On My Sleeve drops this May.
