EARTHGANG is on the promo trail now that their latest album Ghetto Gods is out in the wild. We already know that means numerous appearances on late-night television are in their future. They kick off the first of many late nights with a performance of their album track "Lie To Me" on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
The Atlanta natives have gotten OutKast comparisons since they arrived on the scene, and this performance isn't going to do much to quell them. The syrupy synth groove of "Lie To Me" is very reminiscent of the ATLiens' '90s sound. The duo even evokes Kast's early aesthetic as Olu (aka Johnny Venus) appears shirtless with his locs in buns atop his head and WowGr8 (aka Doctur Dot) dressed in a more conventional denim two piece 'fit.
While the comparisons are inevitable, the fellas still bring their own unique perspective to things as they vibe out to the song — which is essentially about faking it 'til you make it — while on the stage. Olu both raps and plays the hook man as he sings on the chorus, picking up more steam as the performance goes on. WowGr8, meanwhile keeps cool composure throughout as he rocks to the beat and cruises through his verse. At the performance's end, the two harmonize along with the backing vocalists. Olu even ad-libs a drawn-out harmony with the word "erection" at one point) as they bring things to a climactic close.
We're sure to see and hear a lot more from EARTHGANG in the coming months as they continue to promote Ghetto Gods with performances and visuals. Get into their Tonight Show appearance when you press play.
