Spring might've just sprung over the weekend, but we're already looking forward to the brighter days ahead. That also means that we're looking for songs with a brighter sound and outlook to match our mood. We don't have to look any further than Aaron Abernathy and Greg Jong, who come together to recreate a vintage British aesthetic with a soulful sound with their song "Looking Up."
"Looking Up" transports us back to the '60s with a drum rhythm that somehow evokes both Motown and the days of the British Invasion during the era along with propulsive musical arrangement provided by Greg. Aaron then gives the affair some extra soul with his vocal as he sings of waking up on the right side of the bed with positivity on his mind.
"Things are looking up / Things are looking up / It's a beautiful day," he sings on the ecstatic chorus. "Things are looking up / Things are looking up / And nothing's in my way." He then goes into the many places he can find his joy as horns and organ blare out to rejoice with him.
"Looking Up" is a big dose of feel good in a time that we can definitely use some. It also has us wondering what else that twosome might have cooked up while in the process of collaboration. If it's anything as good as this one, we'll be all ears whenever it arrives.
Listen to "Looking Up" right here and then support them by purchasing the track via Bandcamp.
