The Road To Roots Picnic Leads To The Kennedy Center In February

The Kennedy Center has been embracing hip-hop culture like never before, and they have no plans of stopping. We already know that it will be the place to be this spring with takeovers from BLACK GIRLS ROCK!, Issa Rae's HOORAE and the iconic MC Lyte. But did you know that the legendary hip-hop group The Roots have been selected for the For The Culture Artist Residency in 2022? That means the fellas will be curating all kinds of content for The Kennedy Center, including bringing their digital series Road To Roots Picnic to the stage for a special live version at The Kennedy Center Concert Hall this February.

The series, hosted by the ever-lively Durand Bernarr, showcases rising Black music stars across all genres and exposes them to the masses. The live edition will go down on February 25th and looks to take cues from its digital predecessor. Though an official lineup hasn't been announced, past alumni of the program include the likes of Jade NovahPherKenyon DixonPeytonDevin Tracy, Alex Isley and many, many others. The Roots are curating the lineup for this special live version, and we're sure it will be just as stacked as the digital edition has been (and maybe even offer a few surprises of its own).
