Everything is coming up Maxwell. The neo-soul vet is embarking on a new stage of his musical journey after parting ways with his longtime label Columbia and is starting a new joint venture with BMG. The new label, named for his production identity Musze, will also be where he releases the long-awaited final installment of his trilogy blacksummers'NIGHT next year. In anticipation of that, the singer-songwriter has released the latest single from the set "OFF."
"OFF" continues in the territory that Maxwell laid in previous outings with soft, sensual production courtesy of collaborator Hod David. Lingering synth lines wash up on the shore of the rich bass line and sway to the rhythm of the drums. The simmering musical backdrop sets up a tender vocal from the singer, who sings gently on the verses as he woos the listener. It all builds to a seductive climax on the chorus, with him singing, "I'm shooting all my shots / I won't miss them / I'm giving all I got / Never ever let this go / And if I hit that spot / Accept the mission and go off."
Along with "OFF," Maxwell is also making the day of R&B lovers out there with the announcement of his 25-city The Night Tour, which will take him all over the United States with co-headliners Anthony Hamilton and Joe next spring. This, coupled with the recent announcement that he'll be receiving the Soul Train Legend Award at this year's ceremony as well as taking the stage, and you can see why folks are buzzing about the neo-soul pioneer.
Get into "OFF" when you press play and then stick around to see when Maxwell and the fellas will be coming to a city near you in 2022. blacksummers'NIGHT is set to arrive in Spring 2022.
