Chris Brown has never met a collaboration he didn't like. This year alone, he has linked up on wax with H.E.R., Sevyn Streeter and Tone Stith, just to name a few of his R&B contemporaries. We can now add another name to the list, Mario, who taps Brown for his new single “Get Back.” The two singers who both got their start as teen heartthrobs in the early aughts are good and grown on the seductive slow jam.
Mario teased the track on Instagram, warning, “LADIES GET ON BIRTH CONTROL NOW!!” With such a disclaimer, the song's intent is clearly to get panty’s dropping and headboards rocking, which is light work for these fellas. Over a slow, bass-heavy Afro-Caribbean groove, they take turns letting their love interests know how much they lust for them. After already getting some of that good-good, Mario sings, “Baby, one night ain't enough,” letting her know that he wants more. Breezy echoes that sentiment, singing, “Gotta get back to your body / When I close my eyes, I feel you wrapped around me,” clearly looking forward to the next episode with his lover. Mario and Brown's voices blend together smoothly as they both do their good singing on the track.
Right on time for cuddling and cuffing season, “Get Back” is the slow jam that your after-hours playlist has been missing. This may be Mario and Chris Brown's first collabo, but as good as they sound together we hope that it's not their last. The single follows the Valentine's Day release of Mario’s single “Luxury Love” and Brown's feature on Wale's summertime banger "Angles."
