While Leela James might be in a “Complicated” relationship, what isn’t so complicated is the fact she has a bonafide hit on her hands. “Complicated” has become the second No. 1 of Leela’s career, skyrocketing up the Adult R&B charts. Deciding to strike while the iron is hot, James has hooked back up with Anthony Hamilton to give us a remix. The pair previously collaborated on the track “Say That” in 2013, and “Complicated (The Remix)” shows the soul singers still have a whole lot of chemistry.
The Rex Rideout production remains the same, but the moment you hear Hamilton’s signature growl on the intro, you know something special is about to go down. Anthony gets the spotlight on the second verse, expressing his desire to give up his playa ways and settle down once and for all. “Girl, I’m tired of one-night stands / I want to man up / I want to settle down in love with you,” he soulfully pleads. The duet partners come together for the rest of the track, their voices blending together like lemonade and sweet tea.
The original version of “Complicated” appears on Leela James' latest and greatest album, See Me. A project full of jems, previous singles include “You’re The One,” “Put It On Me” and “Break My Soul,” and “Complicated (The Remix)” is a welcome addition.
