There are many talented individuals behind the scenes in the music business who are just as — if not more — talented than their more known counterparts. All it takes for them to become household names is for them to take that first step (word to Lucky Daye). The latest artist making their star turn is GRAMMY-nominated singer-songwriter Davion Farris, who's making his debut with his single "Sometimes."
The song, which has been featured on Showtime series The Chi, is a touching, piano-driven ballad that touches on the struggles that we all face. "I stumble sometimes / I lay awake at night," he sings on the song's opening. "I drink and I cry / 'Cause I'm only strong / Sometimes / Sometimes." The song goes on to detail thoughts that we all have as we strive to become the people we were meant to be. Though the song does focus on the hurts of life, the undeniable sense of familiarity that its lyrics breed is a testament to how connected we all are in this human struggle.
"'Sometimes' is for those of us who give our best and still get knocked down. It’s a reminder that we’re not alone," the singer, who is the brother of established stars D Smoke and SiR, said of the single. “This song is about strength in vulnerability. It's OK to acknowledge that in certain moments, you’re not OK."
Davion Farris is the latest signee to Lena Waithe's Hillman Grad Records and the label is teasing much more to come from the rising star. While we wait to see what's in store, check out "Sometimes" and pick up the single from your preferred digital retailer.
