Written and produced by Louis York, then brought to life by Kasi Jones, Stacy Johnson and Tamara Chauniece's impeccable blend, it's no surprise that the song is catchy and instantly likable. Punchy drums and sunny horns provide the foundation, while The Shindellas further boost the arrangement with their spicy vocals. But a deeper listen reveals something a bit more complex.
"While you were out in the sunshine / I was stuck in the rain / While you were feeling good good good / I was feeling the pain," they sing. Turns out this upbeat bop is actually all about heartbreak. Even more interesting is how the song shifts gears about halfway through, exchanging its fiery energy for a mellow, contemplative groove.
