Victoria Monét is back at it again. After giving us her last single "Friend U Can Keep" earlier this year, she took a bit of time away to bask in the glow of new mommyhood. She couldn't stay away from the scene for too long, though. The multi-talent makes her inevitable return with the arrival of her newest single "Coastin'."
The singer goes for a smooth, old-school, '80s funk feel this time around. She achieves that by borrowing the familiar drums of Mary Jane Girls' classic "All Night Long" and adding an original bass line and synth chords to make it her own. The new elements allow her to explore other textures with her lyrics and vocals. After letting her fella know that he's the only thing on her mind, she imagines a way to show him how interested she is. "Think of the way / The ways I wanna give you this a**," she sings cheekily on the chorus. "Just how you like / Feel like a Thursday how I'm throwin' it back / I'ma make it go North, South, East, West coast."
"If sunshine and a good time (and maybe a lil drank) were a song, it would be 'Coastin'," the singer said in a statement. "It’s made for people with that good, chill energy and the bass line instantly puts you in a certain feel!"
We can definitely say that the groove on "Coastin'" is making us want to sip on something cool and go driving down the freeway with our windows down and the stereo turned all the way up. But maybe that's just us. See if you feel the same when you check out the latest from Victoria Monét right here.
