Tiwa Savage Enlists Brandy In Her Search For 'Somebody's Son' & Releases 'Water & Garri'

A lot of artists seem to be in a collaborative mood these days, resulting in duets and features that we wouldn't normally expect. That holds true for Tiwa Savage. The Nigerian singer-songwriter recently released her new EP Water & Garri, a five-song set that features collaborations with NasAmaaraeRich King and Tay Iwar. The most talked about collaboration on the album, however, has to be the duet "Somebody's Son," which features iconic singer Brandy.

The song fits solidly in Tiwa's Afrobeats-meets-R&B wheelhouse as she puts her own spin on the "somebody's son" meme that has been circulating on the socials. Rather than make it a winking joke, though, the two turn it into a soulful sentiment about looking for love. Both ladies relate the struggle of looking for love and the fear of being hurt again. However, the chorus of the song shows that they still have hope for love. "Somebody’s son go find me one day / One day," they sing on the chorus. "I don dey wait don’t stay too far away / Somebody’s son go love me one day / One day." The joining of the two ladies' voices works seamlessly together, making this unexpected collaboration one that we want to happen at least once more.

There are more gems to be found on Water & Garri, with Tiwa Savage making perhaps her biggest push into the US mainstream with songs that capitalize on the growing love for Afrobeats while also showing off the singer's talents. You can check out "Somebody's Son" below and then stick around to stream the entire EP in full.
