Stokley & KiDi Celebrate & Praise The Divine Feminine In 'Woman'

Stokley has been stoking our anticipation of his sophomore album Sankofa for nearly two years, when he dropped his single "She..." back in October 2019. Though the set hasn't materialized for a few reasons, including our current pandemic, the Mint Condition frontman is still promising that it will arrive soon. To show that he means business, Stokley is hitting us with the set's latest single "Woman," which features Afrobeats star KiDi.

"Woman" is a tribute to the strength, power, grace and beauty of women everywhere. The two take turns paying respect to the ladies in their life and let them know what they mean to the world. Over a slick R&B groove that's infused with an island feel thanks to some steel drum added into the mix, they wax about all the things women are to them, ultimately concluding that it's the fairer sex that makes the world go round. "I'm a king but I still need my rib / Need a queen that can keep me grounded," the two sing on the chorus. "Don't need no mirror mirror on the wall to know there’s no world without a woman."

The sentiment is further expounded upon in the song's video. In it, the fellas are surrounded by women while in Ghana. Stokley and KiDi are impeccably dressed, of course. However, it's the women that steal the show. They are dressed regally in African prints, bright colors and even crowns that show them as the royalty — or to be more accurate, divinities — that they are.

"Woman" is exactly the kind of quality that we expect from an artist of Stokley's caliber and should be enough to tide us over as we still impatiently wait for him to give us the 411 on when we can expect Sankofa's arrival.
