There's a new R&B supergroup in town, and they go by the name of The Chi. Following in the footsteps of LSG and TGT are Carl Thomas, Dave Hollister and Donell Jones who have announced that they've combined their talents as a trio. The Chi – not to be confused with the popular Showtime drama or BJ The Chicago Kid's recent single – plans to bring their '90s R&B pedigree, soulful singing and Chicago-native swagger to the table and these fellas are ready to eat.
Dave, Donell and Carl all posted this big news on their respective Instagram and Facebook pages on Saturday and started a frenzy amongst R&B lovers without even singing a single note. The announcement may have caught fans by surprise, but it turns out that this group project has been years in the making. According to Hollister, "We started talking about this in 2009 and now the time has finally come." Jones is equally excited about finally getting to work with his friends. "Yesssss it’s happening! The level of music and songwriting will be impeccable and you already know the voices!" he stated on his socials. "It’s only right for us to come together and represent Chicago and R&B to the fullest."
Donell, Carl and Dave sound like they have what the game's been missing on deck with The Chi. They have yet to share any additional information about the group or when we can expect a single or their forthcoming project, but with these three being movements by themselves we're looking forward to them being quite a force together.
