STARZ's 'Run The World' Gets A Score & Soundtrack By Robert Glasper And Derrick Hodge

From Robert Glasper Experiment to R+R=NOW, longtime collaborators Robert Glasper and Derrick Hodge have a history of making incredible music together. Now the talented friends have ventured into new territory as music directors for Run The World, a new dramedy airing on STARZ, they've dropped a companion soundtrack.

The show is centered around a fierce quartet of girlfriends (played by Bresha Webb, Amber Stevens West, Corbin Reid and Andrea Bordeaux) as they navigate careers, relationships and 30-somethingness in Harlem. And while it would've been interesting to hear a show like this soundtracked by an all-girl crew (just saying), rest assured that Glasper and Hodge are certainly up for the task.

The dynamic duo opts for a contemplative jazz approach on most of the songs – the kind you can use as a backdrop for a wine down with friends or get lost-in-thought during solitary moments. But the soundtrack offers more than just a sentimental mood. Alex Isley ("Main Theme") and Amber Navran ("Dreaming") mesmerize our ears with their ethereal vocals, while "What Did You Mean," "I'm Sorry" and "Mine In Time" (featuring searing vocals from Kenneth Whalum) deliver slow-burning heat. The soundscape shifts even further on chillwave grooves like "Face The Facts" featuring Lightchild, while tunes like "F**king Up" and "Afrobeat Renaissance" offer rhythmic bursts of vibrancy that are downright infectious.
