Our minds were blown the first time we heard a collaboration between guitarist Rod Harris Jr. and trombonist/singer Saunders Sermons. Not only did they have the stones to cover a Prince classic, they messed around and did a very impressive job at that. Now the talented friends have linked up to cover another iconic act, The Isley Brothers, with their new Midnight Sky EP.
Upon first listen, it's immediately evident that the 4-track album isn't simply a cover project but a well-crafted reimagining of some timeless tunes. The set opens with a swoon-worthy spin on "Make Me Say It Again Girl," followed by a stunning performance of "Midnight Sky." Harris and Saunders also invited a special group of musician friends to bring the tweaked arrangements to life. Saxophonist Chelsea Baratz joins the duo for a titillating rendition of "Sensuality," while trumpeter Maurice "Mobetta" Brown dazzles on an electrifying version of "Work To Do."
Midnight Sky is both a fitting tribute to living legends and a must-have for your playlist. Preview the EP below then download a copy via your favorite DSP.
