Fresh off the 2020 release of her critically acclaimed EP Blossom Carefully, singer-songwriter Joya Mooi returns with a nostalgic new single entitled “Remember.” Known for her thoughtful lyrics and her ability to paint pictures with her words, the Dutch-South African beauty sings of righting the wrongs of the past. For inspiration, she apparently drew from the constraints time often infringes upon writers and thinkers. She says,” This song reminds me to be open to any idea, cause even when some things may sound ‘radical’, I might welcome it with open arms in a few years...but it may need attention now." She teams up once again with DJ/producer Sim Fane and SIROJ for the hazy tune, and it feels just as good as a summer breeze.
For the accompanying Bob Sizoo-directed visual, viewers are taken on-location along the serene coastline of Maasvlakte in Rotterdam. We watch as Joya floats along the shore in a billowy gown before she’s transplanted within an abstract geometric installation. Sizoo explains, “We've chosen to shoot at this specific sculpture and location to emphasize on the feeling of being interwoven with your past. Duplicating Joya throughout the video was also a reference to how our memories can take on their own shapes and forms based on our perspectives."
