Jennifer Hudson Covers ‘Ain’t No Mountain High Enough’ In Support Of Black Women-Owned Businesses

Black History Month may have come to a close, but we celebrate Blackness all year here at SoulBounce. We especially celebrate Black women and the accomplishments of Black women-owned businesses (we are one, after all). Mastercard is also celebrating them this month and they’ve enlisted the help of vocal powerhouse Jennifer Hudson to do so. JHud has partnered with the brand’s “Striver’s Initiative” and even given it theme music with her cover of “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough.”

The track, perhaps best known as a Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell duet, gets new life breathed into it by JHud and producer, who brings the song from tried and true soul staple to dance floor filler thanks to a pulsing beat that kicks in on the chorus and turns the vibe up to 10. Meanwhile, Jennifer offers a surprisingly subdued take on the track, reining in her vocal just enough to let the song simmer on the verse and release on the chorus.

Jennifer doesn’t just keep her support of the initiative in the booth, though. She also filmed a brief spot for the company that features her dripping a beautiful red look while speaking and singing the praises of Black women-owned businesses across the US. It ends with the singer encouraging us all to “shop their businesses and start something priceless.”

The Jennifer Hudson version of “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” is available to stream and purchase now and the singer and her label promise more new music from JHud in the not-so-distant future. If you want to help support the businesses featured in the commercial, you can head here to see them and also peep how Mastercard is helping to close the opportunity and racial wealth gap by pledging $500 million to the cause.
