D'Angelo Jumps On IG Live With D-Nice To Announce Upcoming Verzuz Appearance & New Music

There's never a dull moment in D-Nice's Club Quarantine on Instagram Live, and his Valentine's Day edition was no exception. During his Love Day set, D-Nice teased that he had a surprise coming and urged viewers to stick around for it. It was soon revealed that the surprise wasn't an "it" but a "who" who turned out to be none other than D'Angelo. After some initial technical difficulties getting D'Angelo to connect to his IG Live, D-Nice ended up joining the elusive artist on his Instagram page for his very first appearance on IG Live.

Thousands of fans and onlookers soon flocked onto D'Angelo's IG to hear what he and D-Nice had to talk about. The two legends dapped each other up and conversed like old friends. They weren't just there to chit chat, though, because D'Angelo had some exciting news to share.

D'Angelo then surprised everyone watching with the announcement that he'll be appearing live from the Apollo Theater for the next episode of Verzuz, Timbaland and Swizz Beatz's wildly popular Instagram music series, on Saturday, February 27th. Billed as "D'Angelo V Friends," Mr. Archer won't be "battling" another artist, but he'll instead be joined by multiple artists that evening at the legendary venue in the heart of Harlem. Speculation about who would join D onstage followed with people throwing out their wish list of names that included Maxwell, Raphael Saadiq, Lauryn Hill, Anthony Hamilton, Questlove and many more. D-Nice said he may even hop on a plane to make the cross-country trip for what is sure to be an epic occasion.

This announcement wasn't the only Valentine's Day surprise that D'Angelo had to share. D-Nice straight-out asked him if he has new music on the way, and he confirmed that he does. (Considering that D'Angelo was talking to D-Nice from inside a studio, that answer made perfect sense.) D didn't go into any detail about his new music, but we can expect a new album – his fourth following the classics Brown Sugar, Voodoo and Black Messiah – from him at some point this year.

We're crossing our fingers that D'Angelo follows in the tradition of Ashanti and Keyshia Cole and drops a new single after his Verzuz. We'll soon see if that happens when D'Angelo V Friends pops off on February 27th at 8 p.m. EST/5 p.m. PST.
