KIRBY Brings Her 'Superpower' Vocals & Black Power Message To 'A COLORS Show'

Just before Thanksgiving, Bounce-Worthy singer-songwriter and our good friend in our heads KIRBY shared her funky new Negro spiritual “Superpower” featuring D Smoke. The timely and timeless song about the struggles of Black people was definitely something we were thankful for, as we try to move past the stress, strain and strife of 2020 into a better 2021. Now KIRBY has taken the track to our favorite online performance venue, A COLORS Show.

Most COLORS performances have the artist standing in the middle an empty sound stage. KIRBY, instead, sings her song standing against green background, her multicolored outfit popping just as much as her melodic vocals and timely message. She achieves the Herculean task of trying to express the pain of Black bodies dying due to violence, while also selling the idea of hope. For KIRBY, it seems like light work, as she expresses the emotions behind the lyrics effortlessly and flawlessly, giving us Black power, sass and calm in almost the same breath. While her co-star on the track, Rhythm + Flow winner D Smoke, doesn’t make an appearance, our girl’s stage presence makes up for the absence.

Earlier this year, KIRBY released her debut EP Sis and has followed that up with a number of remixes. Now with the release of “Superpower” as the year winds down, we’re looking forward to whatever she has in store for the new year.
