Jhené Aiko & Nas Reminisce On Love And Loss In '10k Hours'

Jhené Aiko has been doing her thing all 2020. She started the year with the release of her latest album Chilombo in the first quarter and ends it with a GRAMMY nomination for the collection that got a super-sized deluxe edition this summer. She's been back on with her on-again, off-again boo Big Sean. And she wowed with a phenomenal performance for NPR Music's Tiny Desk (Home) Concerts. Although Ms. Aiko has much to celebrate, she still has some things to feel sad about, too, which brings us to her single “10k Hours” featuring Nas.

Jhené's “10k Hours” doesn’t refer to Malcolm Gladwell’s theory that it takes 10,000 to master a craft. Instead, she sings about the time put into a relationship and feeling some type of way when it's over. Aiko lays down the burden of loss over a piano-led jazzy hip-hop groove. “I've been missing you for ten thousand hours (Thousand hours) / I cannot let go, ten thousand memories (Memories),” she sings on the chorus. Meanwhile, living legend Nas reminisces over his own past relationships, what he’s learned from them and how he’s taken those lessons on to the next one in his verse.

The music video for the track keeps it simple yet elegant and matches the chilled out vibe of the song. Filmed entirely in black and white, we watch Jhené in a recording studio singing into the studio mic. This isn't any old session, though, with the singer outfitted in a glamorous couture gown adorned with oversized, blinged-out flowers. Nas comes through dripping and dressed to the nines as well for his verse, bringing his sexy grown man swagger to the mic.
